Skywalk features an array of top-notch international and national brands on a three-level retail space of 3. 50 lakh sq. ft. Yes, that’s where the mall gets its name from. “Originally meant to be an open design, the skywalk is 80 ft above ground level. The design was tweaked for safety reasons. It’s a highlight of the mall, as it occupies a prime place in the atrium. Connecting the ticket boxes to the theatres, the 25-meter Skywalk reflects the aspirations of shoppers. It makes you look up — skywards. There‘s a positive energy about it. It‘s done up with innovative lighting,” smiles Palaniappan.

Ampa Skywalk, that’s taken four years to complete, promises plenty of excitement for leisure-driven mall hoppers. “With three floors of retail space, food court, games zone and a multiplex, it’s a complete outing for the family,” says Ampa Palaniappan, Managing Director of Ampa Housing Development Private Limited and promoter of the mall.

The ground floor of the atrium is actually the first floor of the entire building. The entire area of the actual ground floor of the building (approx. 56,000 sqft) his having Chennai’s first Star Bazaar Hypermarket. From vegetables to household items, the hypermarket is a one-stop destination for shoppers. Skywalk has a sprawling Westside store (36,000 sq. ft.) and a swanky Landmark store (20,000 sq. ft.).

United Colors of Benetton, Hidesign and McDonald’s have opened on the ground floor and Cafe Coffee Day and Cookie Man have opened on the first floor.

The escalators are passenger sensitive, it works only when people are about to use it. When no one is there near an escalator for a while, it automatically turns off. Corridors are reasonably wide.

As if the retail experience wasn’t enough to take your breath away, the mall offers myriad food and beverage options. The third floor is completely dedicated to food and fun having 650 seat food court called F3, which consists Hot Chips, Mr. & Mrs. Idly, Wangs Kitchen, Hot Dog, Thattukada, Namma Dindigul, Rajdhani (Mumbai’s famous thali-maker), Curryhouse, TGIF Friday, Pizza Hut, KFC etc. For those strolling in simply to kill time, there is also a 10,000 sq. ft. Games Zone on the same floor.

The fourth, fifth and sixth floors will house Chennai’s first PVR Cinemas. The 1900-seat multiplex features five small and two big screens.

When fully operational, the mall can house 90 stores, with anchor stores like Westside, Star India Bazaar (the first hyper-mart in Chennai), Landmark and PVR Cinemas. Retail names such as Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Adidas, Bossini, Mustard, Pepe Jeans, Giordano, Titan, Levis, Baccarose, Nike, Dockers, Wills Lifestyle, Reebok, Planet M, Bose, Biba, and Louis Philippe are going to open shop here. Along with familiar names, many international brands are making their Chennai entry in this mall and the consumer response to AMPA Skywalk is expected to be extremely positive given the strategic location and this tenancy mix.

The mall has over 1,200 parking spaces across two basements and a multi-level car park. In addition to this, the mall also houses a 20-room boutique hotel – Auromatrix.

Though the colors make the mall whacky from the outside, the mall looks really good from the inside and has an international feel to it.

  1. even if it has taken four years AMPA SKYWALK WAS MUCH NEEDED FOR CHENNAI.HAVING SO MANY BRANDS TATAS,UCB,APPLE STORE,RADO,WHO WANTS TO GO TO STAND ALONE STORES. AMPLE PARKING AND SAME PRICES OF STAND ALONE STORES SO AS LONG AS THE RETAIL OUTLETS ARE NOT LOADING THE COST AND OVER HEADS OF THE MALLS ONTO THE PRODUCTS WHY SHOULD I NOT BUY FROM A MALL.INFACT NOW I FEEL ALL THE STAND ALONE SHOPS IN SOME SILLY ROAD SIDE LOCATIONS SHOULD EXTEND DISCOUNTS BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE THE HUGE OVER HEADS OF HAVING OPERATIONAL COSTS THAT REDUCE PROFIT MARGINS OF RETAIL UNITS IN A MALL. I THINK IT IS PRUDENT TO GO TO ONE STOP SHOP MALL LIKE SKYWALK AND BUY ALL YOU NEED. YOU DONT ADD TO THE TRAFFIC YOU DONT WASTE FUEL PLUS YOUR PATIENCE IS INTACT BECAUSE OF AIRCONS.
